Facebook users protest at "unfair" Biology A-Level →
The power of the social media… first overwhelming legal eagles Carter-Ruck in the infamous Trafigura case, then forcing homophobic Jan Moir into full retreat, and finally battering the X-Factor juggernaut into submission with RATM at Christmas number one. Now, disgruntled A-Level biologist are using Facebook to complain that the questions on last week’s exam paper were unfair - and the...

Swans get divorced →
Swans mate for life, right? Except these swans…
…who have migrated back from Russia with new partners, which has only happened once before in the past 40 years between 4000 swans. Don’t know whether my belief in true love has been affirmed or shaken by that statistic…

Blair faces Chilcot inquiry →
A rare political blog from me today. Blair will face the Chilcot inquiry into the Iraq war this week and Phillipe Sands has written a really interesting piece about the questions that should be asked of the ex-Prime Minister. If they were to be asked, then it would almost certainly prove that we should never have gone in on the basis that we did. But that wouldn’t really restore faith in...

Glee / Heroes
Emma Pillbury (Jayma Mays) - she’s just about my favourite at the moment. Sam has just helped set my mind at rest. I knew I’d seen her somewhere before…
She was the waitress in Heroes who Hiro fancied - the Texan who could remember everything. Until Sylar took the top of her skull off, that is…

House Colours in TLES - YEP K!
abzzz:
So we had assembly.. I know bad enough as it is, but it gets worse.. we students of The Long Eaton School are turning in to Hogwarts students now. I quote a rather patronising teacher but a teacher anyway ‘I was going to say welcome to Hogwarts but I thought I might sound like I was a witch’ Well.. now you come to mention it.. I can’t honestly see the point in this silly decision and I...

Top Five TV Shows - Ever
1. Twin Peaks
Who killed Laura Palmer? This was the question posed by this David-Lynch-directed 1990s drama. Her body was found, wrapped in plastic, in the first episode, and FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper was dispatched to find the killer. What made this series amazing was the fact that it didn’t really inhabit the real world - the Log Lady sat in the diner, cuddling her log (yes,...
charlottewilson:
“What is REAL?” asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying on the nursery floor. “Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?”
“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.”
“Does it hurt?”...

Avatar is not Pochantos! It is FERNGULLY: THE LAST...
sarahdrivescars:
While watching the long awaited Avatar i could not help feeling a familiararity… a slight de ja vu…. FernGully.
Avatar had been in development since 1994 by Cameron, who wrote an 80-page scriptment for the film…. How strange?! 2 years after the animation FurnGully.
FernGully: The fairy people of FernGully have never seen humans before, but when Christa sees one, Zak, she...

Sound of 2010
Ellie Goulding - BBC Sound of 2010
Really like Ellie Goulding. Not in a “Sound of 2009 - Little Boots” way, but still, she’s pretty darn good. And Marina and the Diamonds came in at number 2, which is good - although the new songs sound a bit overproduced, live she’s still stunning.
And the BBC clearly registered my proclamation that INDIE-FOLK IS THE NEW...
