The Staves - my new discovery. Skip to 0:55 for the start of the song. And when the harmonies come in, I challenge you to stop your jaw from dropping.
Lara Stone for the new Doctor, in my mind. Another genius Hot Chip video by Peter Serafinowicz!
I am convinced that this Peter Serafinowicz rock video for Hot Chip is secretly an episode of Doctor Who. I strongly suspect that I think that this means that Reggie Watts should be the Doctor. Unless it means that Terence Stamp should be the Doctor. (Or is Terence Stamp the Master?)
Hot Chip were right on the money on Jools Holland yesterday.
Anyone who follows me will know that I about as big a fan of Little Boots as it’s possible to be, but even I have to admit that this video is terrible. As in, even worse than the New in Town video. Disappointing. Still like the song though.
So here’s a funny thing. When I was a teenager I went on these amazing Music Camps in the summer holidays. They were just brilliant. One of the musicians I really remember was a keyboardist and guitarist called John Garden who formed a band called the Funky Sunfish (which is forgiveable because it was c. 1991 and Ned’s Atomic Dustbin were popular). He was a couple of years older than me and I thought he was some kind of guitar god.
A few years ago I was thrilled - but not surprised - to see that John was a semi-permanent member of the Scissor Sisters. And this afternoon I saw on Twitter that he is now playing keyboards for the simply awesome Marina and the Diamonds. The picture is from the rehearsals for tomorrow’s live lounge session on Radio 1. I wonder if he even remembers who I am?

So glad the funtimes are back. Love Little Boots.
I wish I could have been there. First Aid Kit at Rise Records in Bristol on 29th February.
First Aid Kit - Blue
One of my favourites off the album, stripped of all the production here (although I quite like the plinky glockenspiel on the record…)
I was completely gutted by Blur’s performance at the end of the Brits. I’m a huge fan of Blur; their music shaped my teenage years and soundtracked my growing up. They were wholly deserving of the outstanding contribution award, but not on the merit of the shambolic shouty mess that was the end of the ITV1 show. It was almost fitting that the opening chords of “Girls and Boys” played in against a background of boos as Adele’s speech was cut off (an unforgivable slight, and Damon’s fault for his ramblingly interminable and tedious acceptance speech).
But now I’ve found this - the other two songs they played, over on ITV2. Why, why, why did they not lead with this? This is the Blur I want to see. Damon singing, not shouting. The instruments working together, not ripping each other apart. And songs; real, beautiful songs…
